In today’s rapidly evolving business landscape, effective leadership is more crucial than ever. Leaders are expected to inspire, motivate, and guide their teams through constant change and uncertainty.

To support your clients in their leadership journey, it’s essential to provide them with the best leadership resources available. Finding them, however, tends to come down to chance of discovery.

In this article, we will explore a curated list of top-notch leadership resources you can keep going back to when you’re looking for inspiration to share with your clients.

1. Books

Books have long been a valuable source of leadership wisdom. Encourage your clients to dive into well-respected leadership books that offer practical insights and leadership case studies in areas relevant to their leadership development.

Some timeless classics in this genre include “Leaders Eat Last” by Simon Sinek, “The 5 Levels of Leadership” by John C. Maxwell, and “Dare to Lead” by Brené Brown. These books cover various aspects of leadership, from building trust to fostering innovation.

Tip: Compile an excel sheet of “commonly faced hurdles” and different books/excerpts from books that you can share in those different circumstances. Then, at appropriate times in your engagements, you have a handy list of books and readings ready to rely on instead of your memory.

2. Online publications

Most of our time spent online today is spent in “discovery” mode, that is in the discovery of interesting content or answers. While you’re in your discovery mode, keep an eye out for useful content – from articles and interviews to leadership videos – from publications that address leaders. Popular leadership publications hbr.org and forbes.com are as good a place to start as any.

Tip: If you’re not a regular visitor to such publications, we recommend bookmarking these sites or signing up to their newsletters, so the content is right in front of your everyday/every week!

3. Online courses and webinars

In today’s digital age, courses and webinars are a rich source of leadership development resources. Platforms like Coursera, LinkedIn Learning, and edX offer a wide range of courses, from leadership fundamentals to advanced topics like transformational leadership and emotional intelligence. Encourage your clients to explore these resources to enhance their leadership skills conveniently.

Tip: When working with leaders, time is of the essence. They don’t have as much time as most executives to invest in structured online education and, often, the credentials of online courses are not of importance. Recommend courses that can be audited and self-paced, so they benefit from the content without the pressure of the time and credentialling.

4. Leadership podcasts

Podcasts are an excellent way for leaders to absorb valuable insights during their commute or downtime. Recommend leadership podcasts such as “The Tony Robbins Podcast,” “The Ed Mylett Show,” or “HBR IdeaCast.” These podcasts feature interviews with successful leaders and experts, sharing their experiences and strategies.

Tip: Unlike books and online publications, podcasts may not be ideal answers to challenges; they are more for passive listening and reflection. Based on your client’s goals, recommend a relevant podcast and make time for informal reflections as they listen to it in-between sessions…it will keep their mind on their goals and motivate them.

5. Leadership conferences and workshops

Attending leadership conferences and workshops can be a transformative experience for aspiring leaders. Research and share relevant events like the Global Leadership Summit, TEDx events, and industry-specific conferences. These gatherings offer networking opportunities, exposure to thought leaders, and actionable takeaways.

Tip: A conference or a workshop is a landmark event with many levels of opportunities for learning. Encourage clients to apply and share their learning within the company after the event – takeaways from the sessions, but also takeaways from the dynamics and approaches of other leaders at the event.

6. Online communities and forums

Online communities and forums dedicated to leadership discussions can be valuable for continuous learning. Platforms like LinkedIn Groups, Reddit’s r/leadership, and industry-specific forums offer opportunities to connect with peers, share experiences, and seek advice.

Tip: Encourage clients to turn to these platforms not just in time of challenge but also in times of insight, so they can share both the highs and lows of their journey with peers.

Remember that the key to effective leadership is continuous learning and growth, so encourage your clients to explore these resources regularly and apply the knowledge gained to their leadership roles. Together, you can foster leadership excellence and drive success in their organizations.
